Mission Choir!!!!

Well this keypad is horrible that I’m typing on, so there might be a few errors just so ya know. ha-ha,!!! I Hope everything’s going great at home. this week was sooo awesome. The choir….OH. MY. GOSH. its gonna be soooo sweet. so first off we are going to be singing 8 songs and a few are arranged by Mac Wilberg, I think that’s his name, that conducts the tabernacle choir. But the reason we are singing those is because (I don’t know if I told you guys) the guy that fixes our pensions sang in that choir and his wife played the violin in the choir too. Can you believe that?! they are so amazing. He is an amazing conductor. I’ll send you the songs they sent me. there are only 6 right now. Also I talked to them and they said that we will be having 7 more practices, and that right before we perform we will be going to Viña to practice a ton. Cuz we will be singing in a concert with other professionals too. looks like it’s going to be a huge thing. We will be performing on the beach with the audience facing towards the ocean. Oh and if you guys want to see photos, we have a face book page now of the mission. I think it’s like Viña del mar mission or something.

But anyways, besides all that choir stuff, we had a good week. We had interviews in the pension with president. He was so darn tired. we had the interview at like 11:30 P.M. and he really scared me talking about following the Holy Ghost and talking about earthquakes. I had a nightmare and woke up at 5 in the morning making my comp and I pack a backpack in case of an emergency. Ugh, but nothing happened 🙂 But we all feel that one is coming. We will see! And don’t worry mom, the Lord protects His servants!

So these past months since our new president came in, we haven’t been getting a lot of baptisms. So this conference President Díaz talked a lot about faith and the steps of how we can gain our faith. It’s really interesting, cuz our ex-president was very strict and our president now is really calm and nice and happy all the time. (one elder told me that President Kahnlein was like when Christ will come for the second time and with president Díaz it’s like when He came for the first time.) How funny right? ha-ha, but it’s very true. I feel like I have been so blessed to have them both to learn the importance of being EXACTLY obedient and also to do it in a loving and happy manner.

Well I want you all to know that the book of Mormon is the word of God and that we need to use the counsel that the prophets have given us and apply them to our lives. I love the one about asking God what we can do to be a better person. That’s really helped me.

I love you all so much!! stay strong and never waver!! 🙂

Les amo,

Elder Pedersen

General Conference…Amazing!

This week went by so darn fast! Its been a crazy week in the sense of our district. Because the beginning of the change, our district leader went home early and now just this week our comp went home also. And now we are without a district leader until the end of the change! Satan is working so hard on these missionaries, its insane! I have never seen so many missionaries go home in all of my mission until now. We all need to be stronger than ever before. just like the apostles have said.

But besides that honestly, not much has happened. We found really good future investigators. So hopefully we can teach them and get them baptized!!! Esteban (who got baptized this last weekend) is doing soo good! He posted on facebook the other day about how getting baptized and how that was the best decision that he has ever made. It made me so happy! He is totally going to go on the mission. We just need to work a lot with him and his family. Oh and his family is so amazing. they always invite us over to get filled spiritually and physically. Pray for them! Family Castillo Perez.
This conference was so great! President Monson looked really bad when he finished his last talk. I hope he makes it to the next conference! He has been such an amazing prophet. Helping us to love everyone around us.
I learned tons from this conference. Mainly about the importance of pondering the scriptures and being not only ready, but willing to follow the impressions of the Holy Ghost. I realized that sometimes the Holy Ghost tells me something to do and i think that its just my thoughts or that its something too easy. Cuz im the kind of person that needs things to be hard to be able to really overcome the hard things or trials that we face. But God is a simple man and He sends His spirit to teach us that we can overcome the hard things through small and simple acts. “line upon line,Precept upon precept.”. So awesome. I also loved the challenge of the weekly scripture that we need to ponder. Im totally going to do that, and i know that it will help me understand, memorize and love the scriptures even more!
Well I could go on and on all day about the conference, but thats all I’ll say 🙂 haha, I love you guys so much and I’m sorry that I changed my date for when I’ll be coming home. But like I told dad… all things happen for a reason. And also, Gods plan is perfect!!

Elder Pedersen

Esteban was baptized!!

IMG_0094 IMG_0113 IMG_0120 IMG_0127 IMG_0133 IMG_0134Wow, so I don’t have any time cuz it seems like I have to write my essay to BYU-I. However, this week was awesome! We did a lot and in the end Esteban was baptized!! I’ll send photos also. It was very spiritual and he bore his testimony and I gotta say I felt like it was more powerful than mine!! Ha-ha, He is such a stud, he is totally going to go on a mission. He’s 19 years old and has great desires to learn more and serve others. He is very humble and we are starting to teach his family, so it will be awesome!!

We did a lot of contacting too this week. There were lots of ups and downs. People cussing at us and just lots of excuses to not listen. But there were always the people that help me realize why I’m doing what I’m doing and it makes me feel a lot better.

Can you believe that 3 apostles have passed away already?! How crazy has that been? It’s going to be a great General Conference. I’m really excited to feel the spirit and to listen to a prophet’s voice! I hope that you can all take really good notes. Not just to read them over and over again, but to help us remember what they said and to receive personal revelation. Before I would just write down things that I liked or the main principle they wanted to get across. But I know now that it’s important that we always try to feel the spirit and write those revelations down. That way we can really apply what has been said to our lives.

Well I Love all you all bunch and I hope you guys can enjoy the conference!!!

Les amo,

Elder Pedersen

P.S. – Due to the choir concert I will be going home the 21rst or the 22nd now. I’ll let you know for sure next week!

September 18th- Hey, so our mission president gave us permission to write to you, and let you all know that we are fine. It was very crazy and pretty cool! haha  I’m just fine. I heard that 10 people have died already. Pretty crazy! This is all we can write, so I’ll give you details on Monday.

Love ya all
Elder Pedersen
P.S. Hope everything went well with kellin and shanna!! 🙂
Several coastal towns in Chile, including Coquimbo, were flooded from tsunami waves set off by the recent earthquake.
Several coastal towns in Chile, including Coquimbo, were flooded by tsunami waves set off by the recent earthquake.

A river of water pushed debris and sand throughout a bustling section of the town’s waterfront just as darkness was settling on the 150,000-person city. Nine people were killed in the Coquimbo region, and a further four elsewhere in Chile.

So why did only 13 die in an quake measuring 8.4 on the Richter scale – the world’s strongest earthquake to date this year – while far weaker earthquakes in Haiti and, more recently, Nepal, killed tens of thousands?

Chile has one of the most effective disaster relief infrastructures in the world – led by a general who lost his wife in the 2010 quake in Haiti. How? It’s all down to rigorous building codes, evacuation simulations and, above all, preparation

IMG_0062 IMG_0065 IMG_0067 IMG_0071 IMG_0075 IMG_0076Wow, this week has been kind of crazy! But really good, all the missionaries are all fine, but are in the north of our mission helping the people out clean and serve. I guess 11 people died and they are still waiting for a more accurate count. Kind of crazy, but everything here is good. We passed it with a recent convert and it was sooo funny. He ran to the t.v. looking for his mom and nephew! That’s totally what all the men would do here!! Ha-ha here, well I’m writing passed another earthquake. There have been a lot of after effects of what happened on TV.  Seems like in another few weeks another one is supposed to come, but we will just have to wait.

We also had the Independence Day of Chile, the 18th of September. It was super fun!! Lots of meat and food, I swear it’s impossible to lose weight here! But I’ll send you guys pics, don’t worry!! 🙂

So this week we gave out sooo many books it’s insane. We gave out 10 books of Mormon and we finally were able to find new investigators!!! Answers to our prayers for sure. They are really awesome too. One has a little kid, and her dad is dying from cancer, and has about a month to live. The other has a family of 4 kids and really wants to know more. We are going to need a lot more prayers so that they can come unto the fold and get baptized!!

It’s been a really tough week too in the sense of the work. There were days where we would be walking and walking and walking because in our sector there’s lots of country, and there’s only a few towns out there, so when we need to go, It takes about 45 minutes to get out there. Lots of time wasted from that, but I just hope it’s worth it! God’s plan is perfect 🙂 It’s kind of tough too cuz there will be times when we will be teaching, and weird stuff is said, that kind of ruins the spirit. And I don’t know what to do. Cuz we know that the people only can get converted through the spirit and there’s none there… it’s kinda tough sometimes. I almost want to just teach the whole lesson, but I can’t. I just need to trust in the Lord and in the fact that he was called from a prophet of God, and we are all imperfect.  If he was called, it’s possible that maybe not through what he says, but through what they feel they will be converted. I’ll be praying a ton for that.

This Saturday Esteban is going to get baptized!!! We are supper excited. He will be an amazing member and do many amazing things! I’ll send photos to you guys so you can see. We are going to have a BBQ with all his family after too. They are all super nice!! That’s the reason why I’m here. After all the rejections and doors slammed in the face, it’s all worth it thanks to people like Esteban. I know that this work is real, and that without the help of the members it wouldn’t be possible. I know that if we do what God says and participate in His work, He will bless us more than we could ever know.

I love you and miss you all like crazy (like always!)

Cuísense                                                                                                                                                                               Les amo,

A Perfect Love

IMG_0036 IMG_0044 IMG_1928IMG_0045Ok so first off I wanted to tell you guys that a few weeks ago we had try-outs for a choir group (out of all the missionaries) that will be performing for a Christmas program in Viña del mar. And guess what?? Out of the whole mission, 24 missionaries got accepted and I’m one of them! I’ll send you the letter and you can translate it on Google. I’m pretty flippin stoked! Ha-ha

Anyways, to continue we had an amazing week! After being with Elder Ethington for 6 weeks with his sickness dealio, we finally have been able to work a lot. And I gotta say, my feet hurt!! And it’s awesome!!!! Ha-ha, we have been walking a lot any doing lots of contacts. This week we gave out 8 Books of Mormon and in one day we gave out 4. It’s been really great to see how just a warm smile and kind words really make the people interested in what we have to share. Cuz people come to the door kind of sad or they say “what do you want?” and when I put a smile on my face and start sharing, they begin to turn that frown upside down. It’s been really great to share with lots of people.  I hope that all these people that we gave books out to really have a desire to know more and that we can find them and teach them! Can you pray for them? That would help lots.

One day as we were leaving the pension (right after Elder Ethington had left) I offered the prayer and I swear Mom, I had never felt that much love from someone in my entire life. It was a feeling that I will never be able to describe and I guess if I had to say two words about how I felt it would be perfect love. I know that in our trials, if we come unto our maker in fervent prayer, He will show us His love and give us the strength we need in that moment.

Well to end my letter I wanted to give a little shout out to Kellin and tell him that he is such an amazing example to me and that I’m super excited to have him out in field with me. I know that he will do amazing things and change the lives of many. Tell him to take a big journal and lots of church music with him.  I’m sure they will have him do it, but make him write his testimony down on paper and put it in an envelope to open when he’s done with his mission. And also I still have a few more points left of the 101 things I’ve learned here in the mission, but when I’m down ill send it off to him! Tell him that I love him a flippin ton and to write me! Ha-ha. He’s one amazing stud and I know that he loves our Savior and wants to do the Lords will always.

Well mommy we will talk next week on how you feel after he leaves 😉 ha-ha, don’t worry I’ll be there to dry those tears!!

Love ya mom and tell the FAM the same for me!!

Les amo,                                                                                                                                                                            Elder Pedersen

Letter from President Diaz:

Elder Pedersen,

IMG_0030 IMG_0036IMG_0023 Let’s just start off with the good stuff. So I’m just going to say that Elder Viñas is amazing!!! He is so inspired and very funny. I could really feel like he cared for all of us and the first presidency too. I heard that every conference he had in the mission was different. It was like what he had to say applied to what we needed. It was very awesome. His wife, sister and president Díaz also gave talks. They all were very great.

They talked a lot about the atonement, sacrament and goal making. He also made a lot of comments about our investigators and the members. He told us that we need not have converts that get converted to the missionaries, but ones that get converted to the gospel of Jesus Christ. He shared some really cool things, he also said:

  • As we teach we need to share our feelings about the subject, give storIes and testify!
  • The difference between feeling the spirit and just an emotion is that the spirit lasts longer.
  • help the investigator not focus on us or even the info. But in how they FEEL.
  • Always share with your comp. (spouse) how you feel about the gospel.
  • If you doubt a part of the atonement, you’re losing your faith.
  • If you feel as though you’re not receiving forgiveness, its cuz you’re not asking or humbling yourself enough.
  • Jesus Christ actually doesn’t make us clean from our sins; it’s the job of the Holy Ghost.
  • How to make sure the forgiveness you’ve been given stays? Serve others.
  • When we sin, all the sins from the past come back. But when we repent, they all go away.
  • The Lord will never reveal the same thing to you twice.
  • Baptisms without a temple, don’t mean anything.

It was as you can see a great and inspired conference. He’s a great man. I know that God sends His servants and has them on earth to help His struggling children. I know that the gospel of Jesus Christ can heal any broken heart and bring the most sinful soul back to his presence through the merits of repentance. God loves every one of us and wants us to do our best here so that we may be able to come unto Him with clean hands and a pure heart.

That’s cool that you are starting Jesus the Christ again, I’ve learned so much this week it’s crazy. For instance, when he talks about tearing down the temple and building it up in three days… yup, didn’t have a clue that he was referring to himself. But it was cool. I love the way he explains stuff 🙂

I’ll be sending lots of pics. Elder Ethington is going home tomorrow. but he will be staying here in viña for these days. We will see what happens with changes this Wednesday! 🙂

Love and miss you all lots!!!

Les amo,

Elder Pedersen

If we can help people first understand the plan, they will find a deeper and more permanent motivation to keep the commandments.

IMG_1617 IMG_1667 IMG_1668All I can say to be honest is OH. MY. GOSH. That’s soo flipping crazy. I would have loved to be there. Grandpa is my hero! I look up to him so much its insane!

Well this week has been sooo amazing, because all of the knowledge I have gained through studying. I don’t know if I told you guys but I decided to start reading Jesus the Christ and oh my goodness it is the best book I’ve read besides the BOM. I have learned sooo much and have gained a new testimony of my Lord and Savior, along with my Father in Heaven. Every time I see a photo or watch a video, I just have a totally different perspective of EVERYTHING. I just don’t know how to explain it. It’s just very beautiful.

So the other day I was going through the letters you and dad sent me when I left on the plane. And I realized that I have been not doing things right lately with my letters home and when I write in my journal. I realized that I have not been bearing my testimony and sharing spiritual experiences alot. So that’s going to change right now, and if for some reason that changes, let me know so I don’t waste my letters to you guys. 🙂 Cuz I feel as though the things that happen to me here are cool and fun to read, but we both know that they aren’t nearly as important as the spiritual things. Of course I will still write about the stories and stuff, I just don’t want to forget about the other side of things!

But anyways, I feel like it’s been a long time so I want to just bear my testimony to you guys and let you all know that I know that my Redeemer lives. I know that He was born to take the sins of the world upon Him and give us the amazing, and beautiful chance to CHANGE. I know that that sacrifice is real and that if we truly want to partake of it, all we need to do is get upon our knees and pour out our heart to our Heavenly Father. He knows what we need before we need it, but He wants us to humble ourselves and be meek. I know that this life has many trials and difficulties, but I also know that God gives us those trials so that we may become stronger. What would happen if a tree was planted in a place without wind, and harsh changes in weather? The tree will be weak and will fall as the storms increase. That’s why we NEED to go through these trials so that we may be able to support the storms of life. I love my Savior and for all He’s done for me. I love my God for lending us His son so that we may be able to return to His presence.

I love you all so much and I’m so happy for all that you guys have done for me and especially all you do for our Savior 🙂

Have an amazing week!!!

Les amo! Y les extraño,

Elder Pedersen

P.S. About what Kellin wants, I didn’t understand… I will say that two of my favorite scriptures are Alma 29:9-10 and Matthew 5:14-16 I think it is. There’s just too many! I also love the end of 2 Nephi 4. Ha-ha

All ye that are heavy laden…I will give you rest.

Hey Mommy!!

Well this week has been pretty great with my studies! I don’t think there’s a better feeling than feeling uplifted after an amazing personal study sesh! So we started our reading of the BOM again, and I have been able to learn so much from it! I have been able to find lots of new things for the people we teach every day. It’s amazing how much inspiration I can receive for the people that I teach. Like this morning I read from 2 Nephi and I read a scripture when Nephi was talking about how they made swords and prepared themselves, just in case of a battle against their brothers. I applied that to a recent convert that when they first get baptized, they need to prepare themselves from all the evils around them, Because they don’t know when the temptations or trials may come. However, we know that they will (like what happened to Nephi and their brothers). It’s so great!

I have been also reading the New Testament and memorizing scriptures from there too. Its awesome cuz I now can use those scriptures to help those around me and also help me in times of sorrow or difficulty.

Like for instance, this week our investigators that had a baptismal date totally turned us upside down when they said that they don’t want to get baptized. The husband said no because his brothers said he shouldn’t. And he’s really loyal to them and didn’t want to go against them. However, he told us that he almost wanted to rebel against them, it was very sad to see that. He gave us like three hugs and told us to never forget him. The wife didn’t care at all and was like “I can’t change, I just don’t want to, It’s too hard.” Ugh, it was tough. But them I read/memorized the scripture in Matthew 11:28-30. It just talks about how if we are weighed down with burdens we can come unto Him and He will give us rest. It was very awesome! 🙂

But I have to say I was really freaking out about going home in December, before school starts. I was praying and praying to make sure that it was what the Lord wants me to do. And so after talking to my comp elder Ethington, I just felt really good about it and I know that it’s what the Lord wants me to do, it’s just hard. Cuz at times there are decisions we will make in life and wonder why the Lord doesn’t answer, but I think it’s because he wants us to make the right decision on our own. He trusts us and if it’s something that He knows we will make the right decision, he will leave us to make that decision. Just like with the brother of Jared.

Well I love you all so much and I’m so happy that everyone is doing great! Have a great week my perfect family! And I love you mommy!!!!

Les amo,

Elder Pedersen

I’ll Be Home For Christmas!!! No lights for almost a week.

IMG_1568 IMG_1576 IMG_1579 IMG_1583 Welp, we haven’t had light here since Thursday… haha. It’s been SUPER crazy. It had been raining like crazy these past 4 days. What I’ve heard is that in these last few days they have received more than they have in the last 7 years combined!! It’s been super fun though:) We took a can of tuna and cleaned it out and we put alcohol in there to give us light and heat for these last few days. I bet the people where we buy the bottles of rubbing alcohol think we are some crazy drunken Mormons! Ha-ha, but it’s been fun. We also made cookies and roasted some marshmallows.

But honestly this week have been pretty full of sopaipillas, which are things they make here that are soooo amazing! Everyone makes them when it rains. But yea so honestly not a lot has happened cuz we haven’t had time for contacting cuz with my comps dealio. However, it’s been interesting! Ha-ha

We have a few investigators that attended yesterday which were awesome and they all loved it. So we will be working with them and hopefully they will accept a baptismal date this week! We have an investigator that is so amazing! He has been investigating for 3 months and he is finally getting baptized!!! He has a date for the 15th of August, but only because he wants all his family to be there! He’s just so amazing.

OH! So I talked to my mission president the other day and he told me that I will be going home the 15th of December. Just to let you all know. So I’ll be home for Christmas!!!!!! I’m pretty stoked, but also sad that I have to cut off a little of my mission. I guess it’s what the Lord wants for me and I know that it’ll help me a lot to prepare for school and life in general 🙂

Well I love you all so much and I hope you have an amazing week mommy!!!

Les amo muchísimo!!

Elder Pedersen

New Area….Again “Quillota, here I come!!”

IMG_1561[1]prov_quillotaquillota__vista_d_galleryfullI swear the whole time that I’ve been in the mission; I’ve been changed from one area to the next every 3 months without fail. I thought for sure that when my comp went home I would be staying in my area. But nope! They closed my area and now, only one pair of missionaries has that whole area. In addition, we just baptized Natalie 😦 But I guess it’s what the Lord wants for me!

So the assistance to the president called me this last Monday and told me that they were closing my pension. So we had to clean and pack all my stuff up that day and the next to get ready for the change meeting. It was so lame having to leave cuz I had just got to love everyone there and made friends with all the members. We also had lots of investigators and future investigators. Now I feel like they will not have the chance to hear the gospel, cuz the other elders have such a big area that it’ll be impossible I guess they are doing that because all the missions in the world or maybe just South America have to shrink down to only 200 missionaries in each mission by the end of this year. But it’s all good 🙂

So just to get you guys up to date, I’m here in Quillota now in la Corvi. It’s a little farther than where I was. We are in a little ward of 25-40 attending every week and oh… I’m in a trio!!!!!! Can you believe that?!?! Again!!!!! Ha-ha, I guess the Lord also wants me to learn something about trios! and I think it’s more patience 😉 But we will see!

My comps are Elder Gerdel from Argentina and elder Ethington from Utah. They are both very awesome. Elder Ethington will be going home at the end of this change. Elder Ethington is super awesome. We get along very well. He loves the same music (which never happens), play the same instruments and just loves the same stuff. It’ll be a fun change; I’ll send you guys a pic of us.

Well besides all that, I don’t really have much else to say, so I hope everything is going great at home and that everyone is reading and praying daily!! 🙂 Love you all so much and don’t forget… the Lord is ALWAYS on our side!

Les amo,

Elder Pedersen
